Bzzz.Bzzz.
That is the sound of a new message or call arriving on my BlackBerry. For a variety of reasons I had the device turned off (yes, completely off) for 24 hours. When I turned it back on the BlackBerry produced a symphony of buzzes.
Turns out that all of those little buzzes come from a device producing enough radiation to interrupt your sleep. A new study conducted by Swedish and American researchers suggests that cellphone radiation before bedtime can cause you to toss and turn all night. Cellphones in the bedroom can also have other negative consequences.
The joint work of scientists at Wayne State University in Michigan and Karolinska Institute in Sweden concluded that cellphones should stay out of the bedroom. Strangely this research was sponsored by the Mobile Manufacturers Forum, an industry group representing cellphone makers. Hmm. Aren't the wireless carriers loading people up with free minutes after dark?
It is pretty common these days for children and teens to be on their cellphones before bed so insomnia for the under 18 set can't be far behind. As for me, I'm pretty sure my insomnia stems not from the radiation but from the call that actually does arrive at 1:00 am....

No cell phones in the bedroom? I love the concept.
I suppose this means all the poor souls who work on-call shifts in IT should now get hazard or hardship pay =)

Lets not get carried away now. It was early research on a small cohort of cellphone users.
Thanks for the post.
