Testing 1-2-3

As I prepare for a trip to an ICANN meeting, I'm prepping for email blogging
for
asocialcontract.com on GoDaddy's QuickBlogcast service. This is just
a test as I work on further tethering my life to the Internet

I think that there is an inverse relationship between the quality of our life and how much we are "tethered" to the Internet. The more we are "tethered" we spend more and more of our time dealing with minutiae that has no significance and less implicit rewards than we might for example find by playing video or computer games.
I think the bigger and better goal is to be less preoccupied with meaningless activity and instead to engage in activities and mental processes in which we are aware of our surroundings and interacting with the important people in our lives.

Thanks for the thoughtful post Bob. No question it is an increasingly complex world with less and less downtime. Always On connectivity has led to people being Always On!

When our fathers came home from work there were few devices that could keep them so tightly connected to office, friends or anything else. Today that freedom is very challenged.

As I noted in my post a little while back on Twitter, there is a lot of endless banter out there. But, from time to time, there are also some gems.
